Kuala Lumpur to Penang by Train (ETS)

Take the ETS Train to Penang and catch the ferry to Georgetown

First off there many types of trains in Malasyia, but we are only going to focus on the Long Distance Train/Railway that runs from KLSentral (Central Hub Station) all the way up north to Padang Besar. You willtake the ETS line. Please look at the map below.

ETS Line: Gemas - Padang Besar

The Route: 4 hours

  1. You need to get to KL SENTRAL
  2. Take the ETS Train to Butterworth
  3. Then take the Ferry to Georgetown (don’t worry… the walk isshort to the ferry)

    note* according the picture above, you do not need to transfer or get off if you are going to Butterworth, the train will stop at Bukit Mertajiam to pickup/drop passengers. THERE ARE NO TRANSFERS, the train will go to each station.

lets start by going to the official site and selecting your destination: This will have the option of ETS, Intercity, and ERL

select Origin:

Select Destination: Then if you look at Butterworth, the ETS line is already populated and selected. Select your date and time/ round trip or one way:

Select Train: Select what type of Train service you want to use:
